Journalists in Uganda have today joined their comrades across the world to mark their own World Press Freedom Day that is celebrated every 3rd May with a call to stick to their professionalism for better services.
Speaking to our reporter on this day, the Resident District Commissioner for Nansana municipality Ali Shafic Nsubuga has advised journalists in his municipality, in Uganda and the world over to continue operating under their professional ethics.
Nsubuga has further thanked journalists in Uganda for the good work done by promoting via their publications and broadcasting several government projects like the Parish Development Model [PDM], Emyooga among others that have all impacted on people’s livelihood. He congratulated them upon celebrating their day, cautioning them to remain responsible journalists.
Relatedly, Her worship Reginah Nakkazi Bakitte, the Nansana municipality mayor, has thanked journalists for their tremendous work well done of being human rights defenders of the society, by being the voice for the voiceless people, thereby enabling them to get justice that has been denied such as the victims of land grabbling or victims of corruption.
It should be noted that several journalists in Uganda have marked this day with numerous challenges affecting them such as poor or no payments at work, among others.
