The Muslim community in Uganda has joined the world to celebrate Eid Al-Adha which includes slaughtering animals such as heads of cattle, ship, goats, among others. In his preaching to Muslims who gathered at Nakivubo primary School in Kampala, Sheikh Abudl Katerega urged Muslims to share with others. saying that there is a lot of blessings in giving especially to those in need. The Sheikh also appealed to Ugandans to remain peaceful even during the coming general elections. Eid prayers were graced by Sheikh Yunus Kamoga the leader of the Tabliq group in Uganda.
The Mufti of Uganda, Ramadan Mubajje, who led Eid al-Adha prayers at Old Kampala mosque, called upon Muslims in Uganda and the world at large, to maintain peace and stability. He also said that places of worship should not be used as business platforms for campaigning and for divisive politics. The titular head of Uganda’s Muslim community, Prince Kassim Nakibinge, during Eid al-Adha prayers at Kibuli mosque, urged young people to uphold law and order in the fourth coming general elections. Supreme Mufti, Sheikh Muhammad Shaban Galabuzi, speaking to Muslims, also condemned injustices among the judicial officers saying that judges are expected to uphold justice to all. “Judicial officers should be fair by providing justice to everyone.
Meanwhile, since Eid al-Adha, is Eid for sacrificing animals, the chairman of Nsooba Slaughter House, in Kalerwe Abattoir, Ssekanyo Sulaiman, told us that there were few cows in number because of the ongoing quarantine on some districts. He however, said that they are hopeful that government will solve the issue. The meat prices are between Uganda Shillings 16000 and Uganda Shillings 17000. He said people have not turned up very well compared to past Eid. Mulu Abdul of city abattoir, at old Port Bell in Kampala, said that they are crying to government to consider them and reduce the prices of water and electricity which is too high for their business.
“The cost for electricity and water is to high yet this place needs to be kept clean, meaning; we use a lot of water. We urge government to come to our rescue because you find that you end up saving very little yet you have responsibilities to meet,” he said. At city abattoir, a kilogram of meat ranges from Uganda Shillings 16000 to Uganda Shillings 18000 and the goat prices range from Uganda Shillings 250,000 to Uganda Shillings 500,000 respectively. Eid al-Adha prayers have been attended by various political leaders across the country. Muslims also been urged to take their children to Universal Primary Education (UPE) and Universal Secondary Education (USE) schools if they are unable to take them to private schools.
