As 2024 comes to a close, various companies and agencies are organising special events for their customers and those they wish to impress. Against this backdrop, Genuine Estate Uganda Limited held a major event at the Wakiso Health Centre IV compound.
The manager of Genuine Estate Uganda Limited, Mr Bazadde Williams, explained the reason behind the event: “At Genuine Estate Uganda Limited, we want to thank our customers for their continued support. Every year, we choose to give back to the community in Wakiso district. Today, we decided to donate Mama kits and other items to expectant mothers. It may not be much, but we want them to feel cared for,” Bazadde said.
The manager emphasised the importance of hosting such an event in Wakiso district. “We decided to organise this event in Wakiso because we always want to start with our community and be helpful to those around us. These expectant mothers are our mothers, and they are carrying the future generation of this country. We believe that one day those babies will grow up, buy a plot of land from us, and contribute to the development of their country. By helping them now, it is a blessing for us, and we pledge to continue doing the same every year,” he said.
According to Mr Bazadde, they also donated blood to the Nakasero Blood Bank and cleaned the hospital compound, among other activities. “We donated blood because these pregnant mothers need it, and there is a constant need for blood in our hospitals. As Genuine Estates Uganda Limited, we decided to do this to help save lives, as blood is often difficult to obtain,” he explained.
Ms Namuliimbe Angel, the Deputy RDC of Wakiso district, applauded Genuine Estates Uganda Limited for supporting pregnant mothers in the district. “I want to thank Genuine Estates Uganda Limited for thinking about these people, as many of these mothers are vulnerable and unable to afford the necessary items, yet they are expecting to give birth. I urge them to use the items given to them wisely,” she said. Several leaders in Wakiso district also expressed their gratitude, commending Genuine Estates Uganda Limited for prioritising the well-being of expectant mothers.
The expectant mothers who benefited from the initiative thanked Genuine Estates Uganda Limited for the support. “I am filled with joy to know that I’ve been thought of by Genuine Estates Uganda Limited. My husband hasn’t bought anything for me yet, and I am about to give birth, so I’m overwhelmed because at least I’ve received what I needed,” said one beneficiary, Nakato. However, the expectant mothers also called on other companies in Wakiso district to help, as some of them feel abandoned by their husbands and are unsure where to turn for assistance.
Doctors at the health centre reminded the women to remain vigilant, as Mpox disease is still present. They advised the women to follow the guidelines from the Ministry of Health.
