ONC holds special prayer to honour Uganda’s liberation heroes

As President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni marked his 82nd birthday on September 15, 2026, the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) organised a special prayer ceremony in memory of men and women who participated in Uganda’s liberation struggle.

The ceremony, held at the ONC offices in Kyambogo, Kampala, brought together politicians, veterans and their children, as well as religious leaders, who prayed for continued peace in Uganda and the wellbeing of those who participated in the struggle.

The event, dubbed the Spiritual Revival of the Fallen Warriors ceremony, was organised by the ONC Manager and Senior Presidential Advisor, SPA Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye.

In her remarks, Namyalo called on Ugandans to revive the spirit of sacrifice, patriotism and service associated with the men and women who lost their lives during the liberation struggle.

She said the commemoration was not simply about looking back at Uganda’s past, but also an opportunity for the country to reconnect with the values and ideals that motivated the fallen warriors to make what she described as the ultimate sacrifice.

Namyalo said the spiritual revival should encourage Ugandans to reflect on the country’s history, acknowledge past mistakes, seek forgiveness where necessary and renew their commitment to building a peaceful and prosperous Uganda.

She also urged the younger generation to learn about the liberation struggle and appreciate the responsibilities that come with the freedoms and opportunities inherited from previous generations.

Namyalo said although the fallen warriors are no longer physically present, their ideals and spirit should continue to influence present and future generations in Uganda and beyond.

The Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, who represented President Museveni at the ceremony, assured children of veterans that her office was ready to help address the challenges they face.

Nabbanja said she had taken note of the concerns raised by the veterans’ children and promised to engage with them to find lasting solutions.

She said her office would also investigate why some beneficiaries were not receiving what they were entitled to, despite the funds having been released.

Nabbanja further praised Uganda’s development and said the country was continuing to move forward.

She also called for prayers for President Museveni’s wellbeing, saying, “We pray that God continues to keep him safe for us.”
