Farmers have been advised to take advantage of the current weather conditions in various parts of the country to sow weather-friendly seeds in order to avoid future losses. Additionally, since planting trees is one of the best ways to keep the environment green in the future, tree seedlings were distributed this week to various individuals by a group committed to reminding the public that without trees and forests, premature death is inevitable.
Similarly, it should be noted that climate change awareness is one of the key ways the media fraternity communicates important information to the public through various platforms. It is against this background that Vikes organized a climate change media training in Northern Uganda last year. Representatives from different community-based media stations took part in the training, and since then, climate change and environmental stories have become more visible on the ComNetU portal. This platform continues to enable environmental and climate change specialists, among others, to access and use information for various purposes, including statistics.
During the successful training, several ideas were raised on how participants could better prioritize climate change and environmental reporting. One of the proposed solutions was increased motivation, which many participants and facilitators agreed was necessary. One of the participants, who preferred to remain anonymous, appreciated Vikes for organizing the training.
“I thank Vikes for organizing this memorable climate change media training in Gulu City. I have learned a lot, especially about greenhouse gas emissions and my role as a climate change and environmental journalist. I have also networked with colleagues from different regions of the country, which has broadened my understanding of environmental issues. I am optimistic that after this training, I will be able to use this knowledge for the betterment of our community,” the participant said.
