The Minister of Health, Jane Ruth Aceng, was on Thursday surprised by various categories of staff from the ministry in appreciation of her efforts in fighting diseases such as COVID-19. The event took place in Luzira, Nakawa Division in Kampala during a meeting with staff from the National Health Laboratory and Diagnostic Services (NHLDS) and other departments.
Speaking at the gathering, Hon. Aceng said she was overwhelmed by the gesture and praised God for the moment. “I’m overwhelmed, God is faithful,” she said.
Dr. Aceng, who also serves as the Woman Member of Parliament for Lira City, used the occasion to thank her supporters, recalling the challenges she faced during her political journey. “My opponent decided to walk with witch doctors; I said, God, I am waiting for my victory,” she emphasized.
Addressing workers, particularly volunteers, the minister promised employment opportunities, assuring them that their efforts would be rewarded. “All of you who have been volunteering, you’re going to get jobs, and I am going to make sure that it happens. But when you get the jobs, don’t relax—keep doing good,” she added.
The minister also appreciated Pastor Twina Herbert and other spiritual leaders from Butabika Hospital for joining her in the celebration. A team from the Mothers’ Union sang her a birthday song, joined by members of the Nabisunsa Girls’ Old Students Association. She commended them, noting that the school’s motto remains powerful and inspiring.
Several speakers at the event prayed for her continued leadership and asked God to sustain her in office. They also appealed to President Yoweri Museveni, who is set to be sworn in for another term in May this year, to ring-fence the position for women.
