Uganda reports major transport network achievements and ongoing projects

The minister of state for works and transport, Hon. Fred Byamukama has today at the office of the president in Kampala, presented to the country what they have so far done since they were given mandate to improve the transport network of Uganda. According to the minister, they have managed to construct over seventeen thousand kilometers of roads countrywide. This has eased the transportation of goods and services.
The Minister said that construction of search and rescue centers on the lakes located at Zengebe, Panyimur, Kaiso are currently at 80% completion and construction at Masese & Kaazi are at 33% completion.. They have signed a contract to supply and commission nine (9) rescue boats to be deployed at SAR centers and one (1) firefighting boat by February 2025.
The Ministry has also ompleted the construction works for a Maritime Survival Training facility and renovation works of a student hostel (36 person capacity) located at the Fisheries Training Institute in Entebbe. The Tororo-Gulu metre gauge railway rehabilitation. 21.34% physical works completed.
The minister also said that 2,134 PAPs out of 4,886 have been compensated (Tororo to Soroti (Bukedea-336/402,Kumi-128/179, Ngora-80/102, Tororo-318/376, Mbale -253/328, Butaleja-53/68, Mbale Municipality-712/859, Butebo -19/60, Soroti-207/535)
It should be remembered that the President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni on Friday commissioned the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project in Tooro which is aimed at improving the transport sector.
