As part of initiatives to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS in Uganda, the Buganda Kingdom has organised the Kabaka Birthday Run, scheduled for 12 April 2026, under the theme “Men for Good Health to Save the Girl Child and End HIV/AIDS by 2030.”

The annual run forms part of ongoing efforts to mobilise communities in the fight against HIV and to promote healthier lifestyles across the country.

During the event, where participants purchased running kits, the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, expressed gratitude to all who supported this year’s edition, describing their contributions as a strong commitment to the Kingdom’s health campaign.

He reminded leaders not to detach themselves from the people who elected them or entrusted them with leadership, emphasising that messages of development should be directed especially to young people, who represent the future of the Kingdom.

“Our hope is in you, young people. Our mission is to ensure Buganda Kingdom is restored and thriving,” he said.

Mayiga outlined key pillars of development, including food security, stable income, access to housing and clean water, and affordable healthcare.

He stressed that life must be protected because it forms the foundation for all development goals.

He also encouraged men to take greater responsibility, urging couples to attend regular health checks and to promote openness in health matters without fear or stigma.

The Katikkiro further confirmed that the official celebrations for the Kabaka’s birthday will be held at St Nicholas Church, Namungoona.

Several partners and institutions contributed to the cause, including the Office of the National Chairman of the NRM, led by Hajat Hadijah Namyalo, which purchased 600 kits for nationwide distribution; EALA aspirant Kisembo Ronix, who donated 100 kits and 100 boxes of water; and other contributors, including families, schools, and institutions such as God’s Way High School and Mutesa I Royal University.

The Kabaka Birthday Run remains one of Uganda’s largest health-focused charity events, bringing together thousands of participants in support of the fight against HIV and AIDS.
