KCCA urges Kisenyi residents to embrace daily cleanliness

KCCA Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki has urged residents of Kisenyi in Kampala to make cleanliness a daily responsibility as the Authority intensifies efforts to improve sanitation across the city.

Buzeki made the call yesterday while joining residents, community groups and KCCA staff in the weekly Weyonje clean-up exercise along Kisenyi, Kakajjo and Erisa roads.

The exercise involved clearing drainage channels and collecting rubbish, with participation from young people popularly known as “ghetto boys” and City Ambiance Scouts from 7Hills.

Buzeki, who was accompanied by Deputy KCCA Executive Director Benon Kigenyi, commended residents for participating in the exercise and urged them to sort their waste and dispose of it properly.

She also called on newly elected Local Council I leaders to mobilise communities for regular cleaning and proper waste management.

Buzeki informed residents that Nabugabo Updeal Joint Venture is the contracted waste collection company in the area, urging them to cooperate with the service provider by presenting their garbage for collection instead of dumping it in drains and public spaces.

Kigenyi thanked residents and community groups for embracing the initiative, saying maintaining a clean city requires collective effort.

KCCA Director of Public Health Dr. Sarah Zalwango also urged residents to separate their waste to make its management easier.

Local leaders thanked KCCA for the initiative and pledged to continue sensitising residents about cleanliness as a way of preventing preventable diseases and maintaining a healthy environment.
