Four National Unity Platform (NUP) members, who were arrested last year, have been granted cash bail of five million shillings each by the Masaka High Court.
The members are Sebufu, also known as Eddie Mutwe, Akleo Kivumbi, Gaddafi Mugumya and Wakabi Smart.
The court, presided over by Justice Victoria Nakintu, also directed each surety to provide a non-cash bond of 20 million shillings.
The four were facing an aggravated robbery case before the Masaka High Court. However, Sebufu and Kivumbi are still facing another case before the Magistrates Court in Kanyanya, while Mugumya and Wakabi have been released.
Counsel Samuel Muyizi, the lead lawyer representing the NUP members, welcomed the court’s decision to grant them bail.
He said the court had considered the circumstances of the case and expressed confidence that justice would also prevail in the remaining case involving Sebufu and Kivumbi.
Ssali Isaac Keith, a former mayoral aspirant, also thanked the court for releasing the NUP members and appreciated everyone who contributed towards securing their release.
Members of Parliament who attended the court proceedings also thanked God for the release of their colleagues and expressed confidence that Sebufu and Kivumbi would overcome the remaining case.
