Following the death of Rajiv Ruparelia, who served on the Council of Victoria University representing the Board of Directors, the position remained vacant until a few days ago when his sister, Ms. Meera Ruparelia, assumed the role after being sworn in in Kampala.
In her inaugural remarks, Meera pledged to strengthen the university’s alignment with the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, with a focus on bridging the gap between academia and industry. Various individuals congratulated her via social media platforms.
Born about 40 years ago to Sudhir Ruparelia and Jyotsna Ruparelia, she is married to Mr. Ravi Kotecha, and together they have one daughter. She is expected to bring her development expertise to the University Council, given her role as Head of Developments at Meera Investments, a company that manages several properties in Uganda.
Her appointment was confirmed by the university in an official statement.
One of those who congratulated her, Nanteza Hannah, said the appointment reflects growing confidence in women’s leadership and expressed optimism about her performance.
“I am happy that the appointing authority has found it worthy to give Ms. Meera a chance to share her rich leadership experience. To me, this is an encouragement to young girls out there who may have an inferiority complex. I am confident she will not disappoint the appointing authority and those of us who look up to her,” she said.
She added that Victoria University is likely to perform even better in technology and other ventures during Meera’s tenure.
