NRM rallies members ahead of LC I elections

As the country prepares to participate in the forthcoming Local Council I (LC I) elections scheduled for tomorrow, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, has urged party members across the country to take part in the exercise.

Speaking to journalists in Kampala today, Dr. Odoi thanked NRM supporters for their participation in the recently concluded Women Council elections, in which he said the party won more than 91 percent of the seats.

“We want to thank all our supporters who participated in the just-concluded Women Council elections, where the NRM managed to win over 91 percent of the positions. We therefore urge all our members across the country to participate in tomorrow’s elections because they are very important. During our recent barazas, we identified capable candidates who are eligible for these positions. We therefore encourage our members to vote for those candidates,” he said.

Dr. Odoi added that the party will not support anyone who chooses to contest as an independent candidate where there is an official NRM flag bearer. He urged those who lost in the party primaries to support the candidates endorsed by the party instead of standing as independents.

Tomorrow, eligible Ugandans aged 18 years and above in the country’s 71,214 villages will elect their LC I Chairpersons, who will lead their respective villages together with their executive committees.

According to the Electoral Commission, voting will be conducted by lining up behind a candidate, the candidate’s agent, or the candidate’s portrait.

Meanwhile, NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong also emphasized the importance of the LC I elections and called on party members to participate fully.

“The LC I Chairperson elections mark the final phase of this electoral cycle. I call upon all eligible voters to turn up in their respective villages and vote for the NRM flag bearers as your LC I Chairpersons,” he said.
