The Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission, Dr. Tanga Odoi, has urged all party members to attend village barazas scheduled for Friday, July 10, 2026, to verify and confirm the party’s flag bearers for the forthcoming Local Council I (LCI) and Women Council elections.

Speaking to the press, Dr. Tanga said the exercise is an important step in implementing the party’s electoral roadmap and ensuring that every village has duly verified candidates before the national nomination process. He said the barazas will be held simultaneously in all villages across the country from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

“Barazas will be held on 10th July 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to ensure that we have eligible candidates. I therefore encourage our members to attend these barazas in their respective villages. They will be presided over by the party Electoral Commission registrars,” he said.

Dr. Tanga also urged members who fail to secure the party flag not to contest as independent candidates.

“I want to encourage our members who do not go through as party flag bearers not to contest as independents. Our candidates will be submitted to the Electoral Commission as the official NRM flag bearers,” he added.

On funding for the exercise, Dr. Tanga said the party has sufficient resources to conduct the process. Responding to questions about concerns raised by the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), he advised the group to focus on its own activities, adding that the NRM has no problem with it.
