A group of youths affiliated with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), operating under the banner of the NRM Revolutionary Network, have called on President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to intervene in the process of electing the Speaker of Parliament to ensure stability in the House.

Speaking during a press briefing held in Lugogo, Kampala, the youths said the current Speaker, Anita Annet Among, should not be the sole candidate considered for the position. They argued that Parliament needs a Speaker with strong experience and leadership qualities.

The group, led by Ivan Mujukye, said the country should not assume that the position automatically belongs to Anita Among, adding that there should be a fair process to assess all candidates interested in the role.

Mujukye emphasised that proper scrutiny of those contesting the Speakership is essential to ensure that the most suitable candidate is elected.

Meanwhile, another member of the group, Jude Wanume, criticised the alleged distribution of money by some individuals seeking the Speaker’s position, warning that such practices could undermine the credibility of the election.

The youths also congratulated President Museveni on his victory in the 2026 elections and urged Ugandans to be wary of individuals who claim personal credit for the President’s success for their own political gain.
