The Acting Registrar General of the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), Mustapher Ntale, has briefed the media about an upcoming continental symposium on copyright management and intellectual property.

The symposium, under the theme “Empowering Creativity: Harnessing IP for Sustainable Development in Africa,” will take place from October 19 to 21, 2026, at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.

Ntale said the symposium will provide an important platform for strengthening copyright administration and improving the economic value derived from creative works.

He noted that Uganda and Africa are rich in creative talent, adding that this potential must be supported to contribute to sustainable development.

The symposium is organised by the African Regional Intellectual Property Organisation (ARIPO), in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and URSB. It is part of activities leading up to ARIPO’s 50th anniversary celebrations in December this year.

Uganda has also enacted copyright legislation aimed at protecting creative works and improving the welfare of people in the creative industry.
