The Electoral Commission, through its spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi, has today released the guidelines to be followed during the Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament by-election. The seat fell vacant following the death of Hon. Hellen Nakimuli in April this year.

According to the Commission, five candidates were successfully nominated during the recently concluded nomination exercise. These include Ida Nabayiga of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and Irene Nampala of the National Unity Platform (NUP).

The other candidates are independent contenders Helen Flavia Nagawa, Sharifa Babirye, and Agnes Nasuuna.

Campaigns commenced today and will run until June 22, 2026, while polling will take place on June 24, 2026.

The Electoral Commission has advised candidates to adhere to the harmonised campaign schedule, avoid clashes, and respect the agreed campaign venues. Julius Mucunguzi urged all stakeholders to observe electoral laws, maintain peace, and ensure a calm and orderly electoral process.

Meanwhile, former aspiring Mayor for Nansana Division, Sali Isaac Kieth, has congratulated the leadership of Nansana Municipality and called upon the public to support the newly elected leaders to enhance service delivery.

“I congratulate His Worship Mayor Serunkuma John Bosco and his executive, Hon. Zambali Bulasio Mukasa, the Member of Parliament for Nansana Municipality, and all the newly elected leaders. We pray that you serve the people of Nansana with dedication and strength,” he said.

Kieth also appealed to residents, supporters, and politicians to give the new leaders adequate time to implement their plans and fulfill their campaign promises.

“To our supporters, voters, and fellow politicians, please give these leaders time to achieve their goals. Advise them where necessary, but avoid creating political conflicts. Some are new to leadership and will need time to learn. Let us put aside negativity because the politics is now over. Our focus should be development, with Nansana coming first,” he added.

He further advised politicians to engage in productive ventures outside politics and seek guidance from experienced leaders.

“My advice is that every leader should have an alternative source of income rather than treating council business as permanent employment. This was witnessed in previous councils and it affected the smooth running of council affairs. We wish the new leadership success. May God bless Nansana,” Kieth said.
