As believers in Christ Jesus worldwide prepare to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ tomorrow, the Bishop of Kiyinda–Mityana, Anthony Zziwa, delivering the Easter message on behalf of Catholic bishops in Uganda at Nsambya in Kampala, highlighted the bishops’ recent visit to Rome, where they met the Pope.

The Bishop said the Pope was pleased with how Ugandans continue to practise their faith. He also confirmed that the Catholic Church in Uganda will continue working closely with the Vatican.

The Bishop further called on the Government of Uganda to release all political prisoners, encourage dialogue and ensure that the laws governing the country are properly upheld.

“We want to thank God for enabling us to complete the fasting period. As Catholic bishops in Uganda, in March we had an opportunity to meet the Pope, and he was happy with what God is doing in Uganda. We would like to urge the Government of Uganda to release political prisoners. We also request the government to be open to dialogue and to allow the laws governing this country to operate as they are stated,” he said.

The Bishop also urged the public to support those in need, saying that acts of charity glorify God and bring blessings to those who give.

In other developments, the chairman of Nsooba Slaughter House in Kampala, Sekanyo Suleiman, has informed the public that meat prices will temporarily increase due to rising demand and other factors.

“I would like to inform our customers that meat prices are going to change due to demand and other reasons. We have so far been able to slaughter about 250 head of cattle. We therefore encourage our customers to buy meat from authorised sellers, because there are people who may take advantage of the situation to sell meat that is not fit for consumption,” he said.
