Ugandans urged to embrace government programs in order to fight poverty

The Archbishop of the Catholic Church, Paul Ssemwogerere, while giving his Christmas message at Rubaga Cathedral in Kampala, has congratulated the Uganda Cranes for qualifying for 2025 Africa Cup of Nations which will be held in Morocco in December 2025. “I want to congratulate the Country for having made it to the Africa Cup of Nations. I request the government to support the team in order to perform well and not only participating.” he said. Uganda Cranes last participated in the competition in 2019 and was eliminated by Senegal in the round of 16 in Egypt.
On the other hand the Archbishop reminded believers that the birth of Jesus Christ is a reminder of what God did for the world. “We are called to build a new civilized society of love. The jubilee year of the catholic church begun yesterday and will end on 6th January 2025. Let us all be mindful of the environment and also help our children to know their land rights. There’s a need to improve on our health conditions by constructing more hospitals and facilitate them with the necessary equipments.” Ssemwogerere said.
Meanwhile the bishop of St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe, The most Rev. Moses Banja, in his Christmas message, he asked believers to imitate Christ by doing what is right and denounce the devil. “We thank God for preserving our lives. We are lucky to be alive today because many people have not been able to reach this day.” he said. In the same manner the lead pastor of Worship House in Nansana Municipality, Pastor Wilson Bugembe has urged believers to use this Christmas to clean their hearts and to those who backslid and turned away from God, he requested them to open their hearts and allow God to enter their hearts. “Give Jesus room in your heart because he is at the door of your heart and waiting for you to allow him get in.” he said.
According to the minister of state for education and sports, Hon.John Chrysestom Muyingo, a Ugandan educator and politician, pleaded to parents to tightly protect their children during this long holiday season. “Protect your children jealously. Everyone has the responsible to protect their children because they are the future of the country. Try in this holiday to teach them the Bible and the reason why Christmas is celebrated every year.” he said. The minister also said that social media should be used to preach the gospel and also use it to give the right communication. He went on to request believers to join government by engaging in its programs such as Emyooga, Parish Development Model, Grow, among others in order to fight poverty.
