Government honours Dr Sudhir, Nabanja and others at the 39th liberation day celebrations

The Government of Uganda through the awarding committee has awarded 61 persons of whom, 18 are female. The persons awarded are those who have done something fundamental in transforming Uganda through various activities. Dr Sudhir Rupaleria a renowned Ugandan businessman has been awarded with the Distinguished Order of the Crested Crane (Grand Officer) in recognition of his role in developing Uganda.

Sudhir Rupaleria, the Chairman Ruparelia Group of Companies received a prestigious medal at today’s 39th NRM Anniversary Celebrations held at Teachers College in Mubende district.
The Distinguished Order of the Crested Crane is one of Uganda’s highest honours awarded to persons who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and service in public or private sectors.

Speaking at the event, the president hailed Dr Sudhir’s dedication to economic transformation, describing him as a true patriot and visionary leader whose contributions continue to shape Uganda’s future. “Dr Sudhir Ruparelia is not only a beacon of entrepreneurial success but also a true patriot who has invested in our country’s growth and global stature.” Museveni said.

Dr Sudhir, who also serves as Nepal’s honorary consul in Uganda, expressed appreciation for the recognition. “This medal is a testament to the resilience of the Ugandan people and the opportunities this great nation offers.” Sudhir said.

Sudhir’s remarkable contributions to Uganda’s economy and society have earned him this accolade, further cementing his legacy as a transformative figure in the region. Born on 17th January 1956 in Kampala, Dr. Sudhir’s journey is a story of resilience and ambition. As a refugee in the United Kingdom, he worked multiple jobs, purchasing his first house at just 20 years old.

In 1985, he returned to Uganda with United States Dollars 25,000 in savings and founded the Ruparelia Group, which has since grown into a multi-sector conglomerate spanning real estate, financial services, education, hospitality, agriculture and media.

Another persons who have been awarded are the Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt Hon. Robinah Nabbanja for her resilience and hard work, Hajji Yunus Kakande, the permanent secretary office of the president, Rt. Hon. Lukia Nakadama, the third deputy prime minister, among others. All the awardees, thanked the president and the government at large for recognizing them. In his speech, the president directed that banks should stop deducting Parish Development Model (PDM) funds from the beneficiaries because the government will pay all the charges. He also appealed to all Ugandans to embrace the money economy.
