The chairperson of National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the president of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, yesterday together with other party Central Executive Committee (CEC) members, went to Kawempe North Constituency to ask the people of Kawempe North Constituency, to vote for their candidate, Ms Faridah Nambi. Before the party chairperson addressed the gathering, one of the CEC members, and the prime minister, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, informed the voters of Kawempe North Constituency that for many years, they have been making wrong choices, and as a result, service delivery hes been being affected. “For 20 years, you have been voting wrongly, the people you vote for, they don’t reach the serving table, NRM has levels, through which you go through to lobby for your constituency of which one of them is called CEC, so I urge you to vote for the NRM candidate for better service delivery.” She said.
In his address, the national chairperson of the party was not far different from her fellow CEC member, he told them that if they need the issues they have been raising for the past years when the opposition members were in control of the constituency, they need to vote for the candidate who is not defiant to the party. And that candidate is none other than Nambi Faridah. Kawempe North Constituency has been facing several challenges in areas of health, unemployment, drainage systems among others. According to Museveni, if the people of Kawempe North Constituency, send Nambi Faridah, to Parliament, they will get the service they deserve. “Vote for NRM candidate, Nambi Faridah for better service delivery.” He said.
Candidate Nambi Faridah, assured the people of Kawempe North Constituency that she is going to serve them diligently if given the chance to represent them in Parliament. Other members of the NRM national executive committee and central executive committee who were present included the vice national chairperson, Moses Kigongo, minister of state for public service, Grace Mary Mugasa minister of State for national guidance, Hon. Godfrey Kabyanga, party chief mobilizer, Hon. Rosemary Seninde, Buganda region vice president, Hon. Kiwanda Suubi, among others, who all urged voters to vote for their candidate.
It should be put on record that during the last campaign day, there was some incidents where the security personnel blocked the opposition members of national Unity Platform (NUP) party to access their initial venue as was indicated on the roadmap. This made some people to sustain some injuries as police was trying to divert them to other location. The president of NUP Party, Kyagulanyi Robert, with other party leaders, agreed to go the the alternative venue which was directed to them by security. “We thank you for not giving up despite of the challenges we went through to Komamboga. I urge you to vote for Nalukoola.” Kyagulanyi to the NUP Party supporters.
It should be remembered that the chairperson of the electoral commission Justice Simon Byabakama, had promised that the final day of campaigning was to be a peaceful one.
Meanwhile, according to some people who have been closely following the campaigns, candidate Faridah Nambi of NRM and candidate Nalukoola Erias of National Unity Platform (NUP) party, have the higher chances of winning. According to them, these two have been responding to various questions regarding Kawempe North constituency, especially about health conditions.
Ssali Isaac Keith, a NUP Party member and aspiring Mayor of Nansana Division, says that he thinks that candidate Nalukoola Erias is going to win by at least 70 per cent. “I think that Nalukoola will win by over 70% and NRM candidate, Nambi Faridah will score about 15%.
Nabagesera Aisha from Bwaise, says she doesn’t belong to any political party, but she believes that candidate Nambi Faridah is capable of winning because of her background in social works and a motherly heart. Kawempe North needs such a person. Good enough few months are remaining, if she does not perform then she can be changed. I think she can win by 55 % to be honest because even other candidates are good, though, to me and others I Know, believe she is the best.” She said. The MP seat for Kawempe North Constituency, became vacant, following the death of Seggirinya Muhammad in January. Out of the 10 candidates, one will represent the people of Kawempe North Constituency in the eleventh Parliament. Tomorrow 13th March is the polling day.
