The proprietor of Homisdallen Schools, Kizito Mukalazi, has been laid to rest at his ancestral home in Semuto, Wakiso District.

During a church service held yesterday at Christianity Focus Centre in Mengo-Kisenyi, Kiganda Zone (LCI), Kampala, multitudes gathered to thank God for his life and the impact he made. Mukalazi was appreciated as one of the pioneering private school proprietors in the 1980s.

In a service led by the lead pastor of Christianity Focus Centre, Bishop David Kiganda, the deceased was applauded for accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour. “We want to thank Elder Mukalazi for accepting Jesus as his personal Lord and Saviour. He is not dead; we believe that we shall see him again,” Kiganda said. Other speakers, including a representative of private school owners, also praised the late Mukalazi for his bravery.

Homisdallen Schools are known for their remarkable performance in recent Primary Leaving Examinations. In 2023, the school ranked number one in Uganda. According to the then headteacher, each subject is taught by a dedicated teacher, ensuring that the syllabus is completed on time, with strong support from both parents and the school administration.

Mukalazi lived for 71 years.

Meanwhile, a section of parents in Wakiso District has called for candidate classes to be allowed to study during school holidays. This follows a recent warning by the Minister of State for Education and Sports in charge of Primary Education, Hon. Moriku Kaducu, at the Uganda Media Centre, cautioning schools against conducting lessons during holidays and stating that offenders would be arrested.

“We don’t think the government should arrest school owners found teaching during holidays, especially those handling candidate classes. Let them be given at least two weeks for study, and the remaining time for rest, since the holiday is short. It should, however, be optional. We are aware that some schools do it in secret and others openly, so why not legalize it instead of forcing schools to break the rules?” one parent said.

Term Two will officially commence on 25th May 2026.
