The Union Transportation Alliance, in partnership with Ruka, has launched an online application in Kampala aimed at providing transport and other digital payment services to Ugandans.
The platform will allow users to pay for transport services as well as essential goods and other services, including school fees.
Speaking at the launch, the Advisor to Union Transportation Alliance, Fred Ssenoga, said the initiative will add value to transportation services and contribute to Uganda’s digital transformation.
Ssenoga urged Ugandans to embrace the platform, saying digitalisation is becoming increasingly important in the delivery of services.
The National Chairman of Union Transportation Alliance, Mawejje Frank, said the application will also help reduce multiple payments made by customers when receiving goods through transport operators.
He explained that customers previously had to make separate payments when receiving goods and when a boda boda rider was sent to collect or deliver them. Under the new system, he said, users of the application will make a single payment.
The launch was also attended by leaders from the Federation of Uganda Taxi Operators, led by Hajji Rashid Sekindi, as well as representatives from bus operators and other transport stakeholders.
The participants welcomed the initiative, saying it could improve efficiency in the transport sector and increase revenue collected by the Uganda Revenue Authority.
The Founder of Ruka said the company chose to partner with Union Transportation Alliance because of its large membership and willingness to cooperate.
He urged transport operators to maintain trust and integrity as they adopt the new platform.
