Thomas JM Global Export trains Sembabule coffee farmers on quality standards

Thomas JM Global Export, a coffee export company headquartered in Kabusu, Lubaga Division, Kampala, has engaged 210 coffee farmers in Matete Sub-county, Sembabule District, to strengthen their knowledge of coffee quality, traceability and international quality standards.

The farmers, drawn from the Greater Masaka region, were hosted by Haji Kamada, Chairperson of the Coffee Farmers Association, and trained on practices required to produce coffee that meets the standards of premium international markets.

Sembabule is an important producer of both Robusta and Arabica coffee, with significant production potential and a growing number of farmers committed to improving the quality of their coffee.

The engagement was led by Thomas JM Global Export Country Director, Dr Jim Tubuhaburwa, and is part of the company’s efforts to establish a transparent, reliable and traceable Ugandan coffee supply chain connecting farmers with buyers in Europe, the United States and other international markets.

Tubuhaburwa said the company is working directly with farmers to strengthen quality and traceability from the farm to the export market, creating a stronger foundation for long-term partnerships with international coffee importers, roasters and distributors.

He said Thomas JM Global Export was established to create opportunities for coffee farmers by linking them with international buyers and investors, enabling farmers to earn better returns from their produce.

The company is now calling on European and American coffee buyers interested in quality Ugandan coffee with a trusted and traceable origin to partner with local farmers.

Uganda remains one of Africa’s major coffee-producing countries, with coffee among the country’s leading export earners.
