Following the commencement of the nomination exercise for councillors and Division Mayors, the aspiring Mayor for Makindye Division, Lusagala John Bosco, was today formally nominated.
Lusagala was accompanied by Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Speaker and aspiring Woman Member of Parliament for Kampala District, Zahra Luyirika, incumbent Mayor Muryanyama, and other dignitaries.
Speaking after his nomination, Lusagala said he had joined the race at the request of the people of Makindye, pledging to prioritise service delivery if elected.
“I would like to thank the National Unity Platform (NUP) for entrusting me with the party flag. I have come to serve the people of Makindye Division. I am aware of the challenges facing the division, but I will focus on improving service delivery and advocating for my community. Corruption, poor waste management, and inadequate representation are issues I intend to address wholeheartedly. I kindly urge the people of Makindye Division to support me, as I understand the responsibilities of leadership,” Lusagala said.

Meanwhile, nomination exercises continued in Rubaga Division, where several councillors collected forms from the Electoral Commission offices. Kabanda Kenneth, aspiring councillor for Kibuye I, pledged to prioritise youth empowerment, noting that engaging young people in productive activities would significantly reduce crime in his area.
Other nominated aspirants include Kahaya James (Namirembe), Hajjat Nmpiima Saudah (Lungujja Parish), and Namusoke Viola (Nateete, PFF party).

Bitijjuma Nanziri, aspiring councillor for Ndeba Parish, also expressed disappointment with the National Resistance Movement (NRM), saying she had supported the party for over 20 years but was unfairly denied the flag. She revealed that she would now contest as an independent after her alleged victory in the primaries was overturned.
“I am not happy with NRM, a party I have supported for more than 20 years. The people of Ndeba voted for me in the primaries, but my victory was overturned and handed to another candidate. Even the tribunal ignored my case. That is why I have decided to stand as an independent, because my community recognises my capability. Ndeba’s biggest challenge remains poor service delivery, which I am determined to address,” she said.

At the Electoral Commission headquarters in Kampala, Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama reminded candidates that the nomination deadline is tomorrow, emphasising that the exercise will not be extended.
