The Independent Presidential Advisor on Trade and Investment, Jim Tubuhaburwa, has been in Europe engaging potential investors and promoting Uganda as a destination for investment and tourism.
Tubuhaburwa says his recent trip to Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark and Sweden was fruitful and he is hopeful that the engagements will create opportunities for Ugandans, particularly young people, to access employment.
He says increased investment could help address youth unemployment and, in the long run, contribute to reducing crime, noting that police statistics indicate that many people involved in crime are young people.
Tubuhaburwa said he was honoured to be invited by the owner of Tenute Silvio Nardi to visit the estate in Italy, where he experienced the traditions and processes behind the production of Italian wines.
He says the visit also provided an opportunity to interact with people from Canada and Italy and discuss how trade and investment can strengthen relationships between countries.
Tubuhaburwa also held discussions on energy and technology, including innovative power transmission and electricity grid solutions being implemented by GE Vernova across the Nordic region.
He says such engagements have helped him understand how technology and strategic investments are shaping the future of the energy sector.
Tubuhaburwa also promoted Uganda’s tourism sector, highlighting its potential to attract more international visitors through sustainable development, partnerships and investment.
He says his international engagements are also aimed at creating markets for Ugandan products, particularly coffee, by connecting local producers and exporters with potential buyers abroad.
Tubuhaburwa says increased access to international markets would help boost Uganda’s exports and ultimately increase the country’s foreign exchange earnings.
