The President of Uganda, who also serves as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party chairman, Yoweri Museveni, has been nominated to contest the presidency on the NRM ticket and to continue leading the party as its national chairman.

This was confirmed by the party’s Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr Tanga Odoi, who declared him unopposed. This means Museveni will be the NRM flag bearer in the forthcoming general elections for the presidency. At Kyadondo, Museveni was accompanied by his wife, Hon. Janet Museveni. Prior to his nomination, he fulfilled all the requirements, including providing evidence of payment of the nomination fee.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Water and Environment, through the Department of Meteorological Services, released Uganda’s weather forecast for July 2025 this week. According to the Ministry, the rainfall outlook for July 2025 indicates that most parts of Northern Uganda are expected to receive moderate rainfall, while the southern regions are expected to experience below-average rainfall.

Officials, addressing the media at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala, confirmed that weather changes are expected but assured continued monitoring of the situation.
July 2025 generally marks the dry season for many parts of the country, particularly the Lake Victoria basin, central, southern, and some eastern districts neighbouring the central and Lake Victoria regions.

Moderate rainfall is expected to resume over West Nile, Acholi, Karamoja, Lango, Teso, Mt Elgon, Bukedi, and some districts of Busoga bordering Bukedi and Teso sub-regions. Most parts of the central region are currently experiencing dry conditions with intermittent light rains expected to continue gradually, peaking in August 2025.

Ministry officials also stated that minimum temperatures in July 2025 are predicted to range between 18°C and 24°C across most parts of Uganda. They advised farmers in the central, western, and eastern regions bordering the central and Lake Victoria areas to continue harvesting their crops and preparing new ones, as July and August are the rainfall seasons for these regions.

Soil and water conservation practices such as waterways, stone bands, contour trenches, diversion channels, and grass bands should be implemented to minimise the impacts of flooding and waterlogging.
