The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party Electoral Commission chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, has duly nominated the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among, and declared her the sole candidate for Bukedea, as her opponent did not qualify.
“The exercise will take place from 17th to 30th June 2025 and will be free of charge. Members are required to come with two people, a nominator and a seconder,” he said.
The chairperson also emphasised that those who are unable to come with the two people may come with their identity cards. However, members who picked nomination forms should not be represented by anyone.
Tanga Odoi also called upon party members interested in vying for positions on the Central Executive Committee (CEC) to submit their expressions of interest between 26th June and 1st July 2025.
According to the NRM Electoral Commission chairperson, any party member willing to contest for a position must note that the nomination fee is non-refundable. He explained that the funds paid by party members are used to support party activities and emphasised that members should keep this in mind to avoid any inconvenience.
Although the NRM party is committed to financing the nomination fees for its candidates during the national elections, the Electoral Commission chairperson told the media that the party currently lacks sufficient funds for this. Nevertheless, they will ensure that all party flag bearers receive necessary support.
Dr. Tanga Odoi further clarified that party members who were nominated before 17th June are individuals with special government assignments and will not be available during the scheduled nomination period.
Last week, the party chairperson informed journalists that over 2,000 NRM members picked nomination forms to express interest in various positions namely, Member of Parliament, Mayor, and LCV Chairperson. Each paid a non-refundable fee of Uganda Shillings 3 million, and Uganda Shillings 1 million for Mayor and LCV Chairperson positions, respectively.
