Supporters of Arsenal F.C. across the world, especially in Uganda, have attributed the club’s Premier League triumph to resilience, hard work and togetherness. The celebrations erupted after Arsenal were declared champions earlier this week when Manchester City F.C., their immediate competitors, failed to win their game against Everton F.C..
It is against this background that Arsenal supporters, including Julius Kayondo, Agnes Senono and Patrick Kashasha, among others, celebrated after the club lifted the Premier League trophy.
“I am so happy. I can’t believe that we have been able to lift this trophy. All my children have never witnessed this. That is what has made me happy. I thank Mikel Arteta, our head coach, for this milestone,” Kayondo said.
It should be noted that it has been 22 years since Arsenal last won the Premier League trophy, and many young supporters, especially in Uganda, had never experienced such moments. Kashasha said he was overwhelmed because he had already lost hope.
“Surely, I am overwhelmed. I didn’t expect this when the league started. In 2016, we missed out to Leicester City F.C.. That was our time because Manchester United F.C., Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea were not performing well. Even last season, we almost won it. Indeed, God is great. Do you know that I was planning to leave Arsenal next season had we not won this league? But since we have won it, I am not leaving this great club which I have supported for the last 18 years,” he said.
Agnes Senono, a resident of Kansanga, also joined fellow supporters in celebrating the historic achievement.
“I even don’t know what to say. I have never witnessed this in all the years I have supported Arsenal. I am grateful to God for fighting for us. Even if we don’t win the Champions League next weekend, my heart is full,” she said.
Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola, the head coach of Manchester City, has today left the club after 10 years of remarkable achievements.
“I did my best. I gave everything until my last drop. I’m leaving with a sense of incredible peace in my soul because I gave everything to this club, and the people enjoyed what we achieved over these ten years,” Pep said.
He is likely to take a break from coaching, although he is expected to remain involved in football activities.
