Condolence messages have flooded social media platforms this evening from various leaders, especially members of the 11th Parliament, following the death of Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament, Hellen Nakimuli of the National Unity Platform (NUP).

The announcement was made by the party president, Robert Kyagulanyi, who is currently out of the country, via his social media platforms.

“Terrible, shocking news! Hon. Hellen Nakimuli, Woman MP for Kalangala District, has just passed on after an unnecessary surgery. May God strengthen all of us in this tough time,” he tweeted.

The 40-year-old MP was last publicly seen at the recently concluded birthday celebrations of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, held at Namungoona Orthodox Church in Kampala.

Nakimuli is remembered as one of the members of the 11th Parliament who raised concerns about the Hoima facility, where the government spent billions of shillings. She questioned the planning and approval process and asked why the contractor proceeded with designs that did not meet CAF standards. She also tasked the government to explain whether qualified professionals were involved.

She was a strong advocate for women’s rights and the welfare of fishing communities in the island districts.
