As the country gets closer to the general elections, the Electoral Commission always organize elections for various categories before the general elections are held. It is against this background, that today in over 10595 parishes across the country, the youth are electing their leaders who will be at their 9 committees. Speaking about the ongoing elections, the spokesperson of the Electoral Commission, Julius Mucunguzi, has Urged youths to be peaceful as they exercise their rights.
“Today, the youth across the country are electing their committees at the parish level, and as the commission has mentioned before, those who are eligible to participate in the youths parish committee elections are the youths who were successfully elected to the village level youth committee. The elections are held within the parish and the 9 committee members will be elected to seat at the parish level. This means that any youth, who has nothing to do with this elections are not expected to show up. The candidates are already known because the nominations for candidates for different positions were conducted successfully,” he said.
According to Musinguzi, the elections are by lining up behind the candidate or the candidate’s portrait or symbol or the candidate’s agent. “We should make sure that we keep peace and be law abiding people and all the Electoral Commission guidelines should be followed as indicated. We urge the youths respect one another. This is not a do or die affair, we should conduct ourselves in a peaceful manner,” Mucunguzi said. The elections end at exactly 4, o’clock and only those who will be in the line will be allowed to vote.
