The Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations tournament, which will be co-hosted by Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya, has today held a press conference at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala.
The briefing aimed to update the country and the international community on the upcoming visit by the Confederation of African Football for a two-day workshop involving the PAMOJA host nations, as part of efforts to intensify preparations for Africa’s biggest football tournament.
Speaking on behalf of the LOC, the Chairperson of the Communications and Signage Subcommittee, Dennis Mugimba, said the workshop, scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday this week, demonstrates CAF’s commitment to supporting the host nations.
“As LOC, we thank Janet Museveni for hosting this meeting. Building strong coordination mechanisms and operational readiness across all core areas is critical for successful tournament delivery. This workshop is a sign of CAF’s commitment to supporting the PAMOJA host nations for AFCON 2027,” he said.
He added that the engagement marks an important step in strengthening collective determination and focusing on key functional areas necessary for the successful delivery of the tournament.
The meeting will bring together representatives from the governments of the three host nations, led by their respective Ministers of Sports, the presidents of the three football federations, and the Acting CAF General Secretary, Samson Adamu, alongside senior CAF officials.
Dr. Mugimba clarified that the visit is not a CAF inspection mission for the 2027 tournament or related facilities, but rather a preparatory and coordination workshop.
On accommodation, he emphasized that the responsibility lies with relevant government bodies.
“First, we want to clarify that the mandate to declare a service premise, place, or facility as a tourist establishment lies with the Minister responsible for Tourism. The LOC is therefore working closely with the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, as well as the Uganda Tourism Board, as part of inter-sectoral arrangements for AFCON 2027, to establish a central point of information on approved accommodation facilities,” he explained.
Regarding infrastructure, Dr. Mugimba revealed that the Government of Uganda has released UGX 130.4 billion to support the construction and completion of eight AFCON 2027 training facilities. These include Hoima Boma Training Facility, Masindi Municipal Training Facility, Lira University Training Facility, and Gulu University Training Facility, among others.
He further noted that the Federation of Uganda Football Associations has requested up to June 2026 to hand over FUFA Kadiba Stadium to allow for upgrade works into a designated training facility for the tournament.
