Christmas is one of the most cherished celebrations in the christian calendar, a time when the faithful gather to honor the birth of Jesus Christ, the savior of the universe. While speaking to journalists in Mukono district, the leader of Non-governmental organizations in Buikwe district and founder of Gates of Dominion Churches in Uganda, Pastor Christopher Kinarwa Kyobe said that as we approach the festivities, women should not put much pressure on their spouses to buy them clothes, and other things. “I request women to please not to pressurise their husbands but to share the little which is available in order to move on.”
The pastor explained that pressuring men to buy everything that women need, when they are not doing well financially is bad and that’s why some men end up beating up their wives just because they never bought clothes for Christmas. And if you ask this man, he will tell you that every year he has been buying clothes but this time round things didn’t work out well for him and he decided to go with what is available. “Journalists, try to investigate this, some of these men have been buying clothes and everything for their spouses for Christmas but because today he failed due to financial challenges, then the woman forgets what the man did last year and hence domestic violence. So, let us know that this is just for one day and they’re many Christmas days to celebrate. If this one has not been good the way you wanted, be thankful to God for at least sparing your life.” Kyobe stated.
According to Kyobe, preachers of the gospel should help those in need especially single mothers, orphans, among others. By doing this, God’s work is done according to his will. “Pastors of the word, this is the time to spread love to the people in need. Those people are the reason why we are preachers. We should also stop fighting each other because the one who sent us to preach the gospel, is love. Let’s use this season to love those people.” he said.
It should be remembered that Christmas date in the new testament of the holy Bible is not explicitly record it. The gospel of Matthew and Luke provides rich narratives about the birth of Christ Jesus, emphasising its miraculous nature and theological importance. However, early Christians did not initially celebrate Christ’s birth. Their focus was primarily on his death and resurrection, which they commemorated during Easter. By the 4th century, according to Rev Ronald Kiyimba, while the Bible does not specify a date, there are several theories about why this day was chosen.
During the Roman Empire, December 25th coincided with the winter solstice and the pagan festival of sol Invictus. This festival celebrated the return of longer days and the ‘rebirth’ of the sun. The birth of Christ fulfills oOd Testament prophecies about the coming messiah. Isaiah foretold “The unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given.” Isaiah 9:6. Celebrating Christmas reminds Christians that God is faithful to His Promises.
