Nansana municipality encourages residents to embrace GKMA development programmes

Nansana Municipality Commercial Officer, Ms Nabasumba Roy, has urged residents across the four divisions of Nansana, Gombe, Busukuma, and Nabweru to embrace the ongoing programmes under the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area Urban Development Programme (GKMA) to promote better planning, development, and service delivery.

Speaking to our reporter during a radio talk show, Roy encouraged residents to coordinate effectively with officers at all stages of the programme’s implementation. She highlighted the importance of cooperating with the data collection team, currently gathering information from various businesses operating in the wards of Nabweru North, 7/8 Ochieng, Nakyesanja, Wamala, and Maganjo.

Under the GKMA strategy, the Government highlights five strategic objectives and major programme areas, which include: competitive economic infrastructure – strategic roads programme, public transportation programme, and affordable housing and land management programme, conserve and protect environmental assets – comprehensive solid waste management programme and lakes, wetlands and waterways conservation programme, business support to transform the informal sector, the youth and economic growth clusters, micro, small, and medium enterprise workspace and innovation and skilling programme, business engagement and youth entrepreneurship development programme, cluster competitiveness programme, certification, apprenticeship and accreditation, a unique centre for tourism, infrastructure in the tourism sites and deliberate efforts to promote tourism in the GKMA and effective city and local government service delivery – Sub-national government skills, strong institutional and legal arrangement and governance for effective city and service delivery and strengthening institutions to deliver services, for example local economic development (LED).
