Following the official release of 2024 UCE results by the Minister of Education and Sports, Hon Janet Museveni, where 98% of the learners who sat for the examinations, passed according to Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) executive director, Dan Odongo. Many schools all-over the Country have been thanking the God for the performance. The headteacher of God’s Way High School in Maganjo, Ms. Tusiime Olivia Suubi, thanked God for the performance of their students. “I Thank the Almighty God for enabling our students to pass very well in the recently released UNEB examinations. We sat 130 students and all of them passed in result one; meaning they can proceed with their education to the next level.” Tusiime said.
Tusiime continued to thank the director of the school, Mr. Kizito Henry who guided the school in all ways despite of the challenges. “I thank the director, Mr. Kizito for everything he did. I also thank the teachers because this was a new curriculum but they managed to do whatever it takes to make sure that the students understand it. I thank our students for their hard work and I also extend my thanks to our parents who paid school fees in time, which smoothed our role. I also thank the National Curriculum Development Center for not getting tired of guiding our teachers to make sure that they get to understand the new curriculum.” she said. The headteacher confirmed that God’s Way is a unique school where a parent should take the student to because they make sure that the learner’s dreams in academics, comes to reality.
In the same manner, the deputy headteacher in charge of Academics, at St. Elizabeth Senior Secondary School Nkoowe in Wakiso District, Alexander Habimaana, on behalf of the administration of the the school, thanked the Almighty God for being their for their students during examinations. “I want to take this opportunity to thank God for enabling our students to pass in flying colours. Here, we emphasize science subjects that’s why, out of the 154 students we sat, a bigger percentage performed well in science subjects. All our students got result one which means that they are able to continue with their education in either A’Level or Tertiary institutions. St. Elizabeth SSS Nkoowe has been performing so good in UNEB examinations since we started our Journey if education.” he said.
“I take this opportunity to extend my thanks to my fellow teachers who sacrificed whatever they could, to make sure that our students perform well. I thank our parents who worked closely with the administration to find ways of helping the students to excel by paying school dues in time” Habimaana said. The deputy Headteacher in charge of Academics, explained to the parents the meaning of the new grading because majority of Ugandans don’t understand the new lower curriculum UNEB grading. This will help the students, parents and guardians to understand the meaning of their children’s performance which will help them to advice them accordingly.
According to Habimaana, A; means exceptional. This demonstrates an extraordinary level of competency by applying innovatively and creatively the acquired knowledge and skills in real life situations. B stands for outstanding. This implies that the leaner demonstrated a high level of competency by applying the acquired knowledge and skills in real life situations. C stands for outstanding which states that the student demonstrates an adequate level of competency by applying the acquired knowledge and skills in real life situations. D stands for Basic which means that this leaner demonstrated a minimum level of competency in applying the acquired knowledge and skills in real life situations. He concluded by defining E where he said that this stands for below the basic level of competency in applying the acquired knowledge and skills in real life situations.
It should be remembered that members of the 11th Parliament raised concern about the new grading and tasked the ministry of education and sports to explain. This forced the speaker, Rt Hon Annet Anita Among to send the minister of state for education, Hon. Moriku Kaducu to get detailed information about the new grading and present it to the house because according to the speaker and the members of parliament, their voters have been asking them the meaning of the UNEB new curriculum grading which they were not in position to respond since they had no idea about it.
