Football supporters in Uganda have congratulated Spain after winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup by defeating Argentina in the final.

Speaking to journalists, the supporters said Spain deserved the trophy because the team prepared well throughout the tournament, unlike Argentina. Ferran Torres scored the only goal of the match.

Akello Angel, one of the supporters, said although she had been supporting England, she was happy that Spain emerged champions.

“I was supporting England, but I’m very happy that Spain won the trophy. They came into the tournament well prepared, so they honestly deserved this victory. Argentina should try again next time. I’m also happy because Messi did not win the Golden Boot. You can’t imagine how happy I am today,” she said.

Other fans also shared their views after the final whistle.

“My name is Kavuma. I was supporting Portugal, but I’m overwhelmed by Spain’s victory. Argentina played a very boring game, which is why they lost. They spent most of the match defending, and that turned out to be a bad strategy. Spain punished them for it.

“My appeal to our government is to invest more in football. When you invest in football, you never regret it. Next year we shall be co-hosting the Africa Cup of Nations with our neighbours, but a lot still needs to be done. It is always better to plan ahead,” he said.

It should be noted that Spain, the tournament winners, earned a total of US$63 million in prize money, while Argentina received US$45.5 million. FIFA allocated a total prize fund of US$871 million for the tournament.

The final was attended by several dignitaries, including U.S. President Donald Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino. It was played at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, United States, which has a seating capacity of 80,663.

Spain last won the FIFA World Cup in 2010, when the tournament was hosted in South Africa.
