Parents and guardians have been urged to keep their children engaged in productive activities during the long holiday to prevent them from engaging in activities that may negatively affect their lives.

The call was made by the director of Firm Foundation School in Lubowa, Wakiso District, Mrs Margaret Adatu, during the dedication of the school’s Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) candidates.

Adatu identified social media as one of the challenges facing learners, noting that children may access sensitive and inappropriate information online.

She, however, clarified that she was not against technology but urged parents to guide their children on its proper use.

“Dear parents, we have been with these children for quite a long time. Now they are coming to be with you during this long holiday. Please make them busy with work. I know you are busy, but create time for them,” she said.

The preacher also encouraged the candidates to put their trust in God as they prepare for their examinations, expressing hope that they would achieve good results.

The school’s headteacher, Oligoi Simon, told the candidates that the time had come for them to demonstrate what they had learned, urging them not to fear because they had been dedicated to God in prayer.

He expressed confidence that God would guide them through the examinations.

The school dedicated more than 20 PLE candidates and expressed optimism that this year’s performance would improve, building on last year’s results, in which 13 candidates obtained first grades while seven attained second grades.

The school attributed its expectations to the efforts invested in preparing the learners.

During the event, the school also recognised disciplined candidates and presented gifts to them. Teachers and parents were equally appreciated for their contribution to the learners’ education.
