Following the death of the Woman Member of Parliament for Kalangala District, Hellen Nakimuli, mourners gathered at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church to pray for the deceased.

Many speakers described the late legislator as hardworking, resilient, and self-controlled.

Earlier at Uganda Media Centre, the State Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Godfrey Kabyanga, led journalists and officials in observing a moment of silence in her honor before addressing the media.

“May we all stand and observe a moment of silence in memory of Hon. Nakimuli?” he asked. The gathering complied, after which he added, “May her soul rest in peace.”

Hon. Nakimuli will be remembered for her dedication to service. During a special sitting of Parliament, held in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, Members of Parliament paid glowing tribute to the fallen legislator and were encouraged to contribute support to her family.

According to the law, when a Member of Parliament passes away, the Electoral Commission is mandated to organize a by-election to fill the vacant seat. The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Simon Byabakama, confirmed that the Commission is awaiting official communication from the Clerk to Parliament before commencing the process.

Hon. Nakimuli was laid to rest in Luwero District, where a large number of mourners turned up to pay their last respects.
