Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), through its Weyonje campaign, has stepped up cleaning activities along Dr. Seruwu Road in Katende Zone, Rubaga Division.

Speaking to journalists, KCCA Director of Public Health, Dr. Sarah Zalwango, said keeping the environment clean is everyone’s responsibility. She encouraged local leaders to organize similar clean-up exercises at least once every month.

“I want to appreciate everyone who has taken part in this campaign. Health is everyone’s responsibility, and we should all play our part. I encourage local leaders to mobilize residents to pay for garbage collection through Nabugabo Updeal Joint Venture, the company mandated to provide the service,” she said.

Dr. Zalwango also reminded residents to remain vigilant against Ebola.

Residents welcomed the initiative and thanked KCCA for improving sanitation in the area. Nakayiza Aisha said the campaign would help protect people’s health.

“I thank KCCA for thinking about our health. Good health is very important because without it, it is difficult to achieve our goals. I am very grateful for this initiative,” she said.

Sayid Lwanga, Director of BLS Recruitment Agency, praised KCCA for cleaning the drainage channels but appealed to the authority to repair the area’s roads.

“They should also work on the roads because the dust affects us a lot. Otherwise, I appreciate KCCA for the good work,” he said.
