As the Bible says in Proverbs 8:17, “I love those who love me, and those who diligently seek me will find me,” thousands of believers gathered at Phaneroo Grounds in Naguru, Kampala, to usher in the New Year 2026 in the presence of God.
The overnight prayer event attracted worshippers from across the country and the diaspora, including Canada, Botswana, and the United States. Among the dignitaries in attendance were the Uganda People’s Defence Forces spokesperson, Maj. Gen. Felix Kulaigye, and the Vice-Chancellor of Victoria University, Prof. Lawrence Muganga.
At exactly a quarter to midnight, Apostle Grace Lubega took to the altar to lead believers into the new year. Before commencing the crossover prayers, he thanked God for enabling the ministry and its members to complete the year 2025.
He also used the moment to caution believers ahead of the forthcoming general elections scheduled for 15 January 2026, urging them to prioritise peace and servant leadership.
“We are going to pray for peaceful elections. We don’t want bloodshed. Vote for people who will serve you. Uganda needs leaders who will serve the people,” he said.
The Apostle further called for prayers against corruption, noting that it continues to hinder effective service delivery in the country.
“We need to pray against the spirit of corruption,” he added.
Apostle Lubega also revealed that in 2026, Phaneroo Ministries plans to invest heavily in crusades, with a target of winning more than 700 souls.
During his sermon, he quoted Acts 9:36, recounting how the disciple Peter prayed and Dorcas was raised back to life, encouraging believers to expect unprecedented experiences in the new year.
Several attendees shared personal testimonies about why they chose Phaneroo as their crossover destination. Esther Trina said she was grateful to God for enabling her to enter 2026 and cited Apostle Lubega’s teachings and gospel music minister Ada Ehi as her inspiration.
“I bless God that we have all made it to 2026. I came here because Apostle Lubega’s preaching works for me. I also love Ada Ehi’s songs because whenever I listen to them, I feel relieved,” she said.
Another believer, Brenda, said Apostle Lubega’s preaching had transformed her life since joining campus four years ago.
“Ever since I joined campus about four years ago, I have loved Apostle Lubega’s preaching because it transformed my life. That is the main reason I came here,” she said.
When the clock struck midnight, Apostle Lubega ushered believers into the new year with intensive prayers, accompanied by a vibrant fireworks display.
According to the Apostle, Phaneroo’s first service of the year will be held on 22 January, followed by 40 days of prayer and fasting beginning 2 February, as part of spiritual preparation for the year ahead.
The night was also marked by praise and worship performances, with Nigerian gospel artist Ada Ehi ministering songs such as Victory, while Levixon also performed for the congregation.
