KCCA holds Weyonje clean-up campaign in Rubaga

In an effort to clean up various areas of Kampala, the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has today held its Weyonje clean-up campaign in Kabaale Zone, Rubaga Division.

The KCCA team was led by the KCCA Executive Deputy Director, Benon Kigenyi, Director of Public Health Dr. Sarah Zalwango, and Kampala Lord Mayor Ronald Balimwezo, among other officials.

The officials explained to residents the importance of maintaining a clean environment and encouraged them to take responsibility for keeping their communities clean.

Speaking to journalists, KCCA Director of Public Health Dr. Sarah Zalwango said residents should take the initiative to clean their surroundings because a clean environment helps prevent diseases.

“I want to thank everyone for taking part in this campaign. We do this to remind the general public that a clean environment is everyone’s responsibility and it is not optional. I therefore encourage residents to always take note of that because it is for their own benefit,” she said.

The Lord Mayor of Kampala, Ronald Balimwezo, also participated in the clean-up exercise and thanked KCCA for organising the campaign.

“I want to thank KCCA for organising this campaign. Whenever people are engaged in this exercise, it is a good gesture. So, we urge residents to always be compliant. We face challenges when we come to such campaigns because residents don’t want to participate. But the people of this area have been compliant, and we urge those in other areas to pick a leaf,” he said.

Meanwhile, KCCA Executive Director Sharifa Buzeki yesterday confirmed that the authority plans to purchase 10 additional garbage trucks to address challenges in garbage collection.

The new trucks will increase KCCA’s fleet from the current 34 to 44 garbage trucks. This will also mean that each of the five divisions will receive two additional garbage trucks to improve garbage collection services.
