Schools urge parents to work with administrations as term three begins

Schools across Uganda have opened for the third and final term of the 2026 academic year, with headteachers urging parents and school administrations to work together to ensure learners report on time and complete the term successfully.
The call comes amid concerns about the rising cost of living and financial challenges facing many families, with some parents struggling to meet school fees and other requirements.
Kizito Joseph, the headteacher of Sheehan Standard Day and Boarding Primary School in Rubaga Division, Kampala, has commended parents who managed to send their children back to school on the first day of the term.
He says parents who are struggling financially should communicate with school administrators so that learners can report in time, especially because this is the final term of the year.
Seruwu Alex John, the headteacher of Good Hope Primary School in Nabulagala, also urged parents to ensure that learners return to school on time.
He says reporting late could cause learners to miss important lessons, particularly candidates who have a short period to prepare for their final examinations.

Some stakeholders have also called on schools to be flexible and allow learners to report even when their parents have not yet cleared school fees, giving families at least a week to look for the required money.
This comes amid complaints from some parents over the number of school requirements, particularly in private primary schools, where some institutions require parents to clear a significant portion of school fees and fully provide the required scholastic materials before learners are allowed to report.
Primary Seven candidates are expected to sit their final examinations in November, while Senior Four candidates will sit their examinations in October and November. Senior Six candidates will sit their final examinations in November and December.
The third term will end on Friday, December 4, 2026.
