The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has reported a generally smooth start to the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations, despite a few incidents recorded during the first week.

UNEB spokesperson Jennifer Kalule Musamba made the remarks at Police Headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, while updating the public on the progress of the examinations, which began last week for Senior Four candidates.

Musamba said another group of examination scouts had been briefed and commissioned over the weekend to monitor the second week of the examinations and help ensure a secure, credible and inclusive process.

The examinations are being conducted under the theme, “Advancing Excellence in Assessment and Certification through Secure, Credible, Inclusive and Innovative Processes.”

A total of 503,055 candidates registered for the examinations.

Musamba also revealed that investigations were underway into an incident involving four people who allegedly posed as Parish Internal Security Officers (PISOs) and District Internal Security Officers (DISOs) while collecting information from Queen of Martyrs School under Kiira Police Station.

In a separate incident, a candidate at Old Kampala Senior Secondary School was allegedly found with a mobile phone on 12 October 2026 and reportedly photographed a Mathematics examination paper.

According to Musamba, the matter was reported to the police, and investigations are ongoing. She added that the candidate would continue sitting the examinations in accordance with the UNEB Act, Cap. 256.

The UNEB spokesperson also cautioned candidates against indiscipline as many prepare to complete their examinations this week.

She warned that examination-related misconduct could lead to disqualification, cancellation of results or arrest, depending on the circumstances.

Musamba urged parents and guardians to remind candidates to remain calm and observe school rules and regulations throughout the examination period.

She wished all candidates success in their remaining examination papers.
