Third National Cleaning Day to be held in Hoima City

The Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt Hon Robinah Nabbanja, has confirmed that the third National Cleaning Day will be held in Hoima City.

Nabbanja urged Ugandans who will not be able to travel to Hoima to participate in the exercise from their respective communities.

She said the National Cleaning Day was endorsed by President Yoweri Museveni and Cabinet as part of efforts to promote cleanliness across the country.

The first two National Cleaning Days were held in Kisenyi in Kampala Central Division and at UMEA Primary School in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.

Nabbanja said Ugandans should not wait for the national exercise to clean their surroundings, but should make cleanliness a daily responsibility.

“I want to thank President Museveni for giving us the opportunity to clean our respective areas in honour of National Cleaning Day. I urge the general public to participate in this exercise as they have been doing,” Nabbanja said.

She also called on the public to sort waste at the source, saying proper waste management is important in keeping communities clean.

“We should not only clean on National Cleaning Day, but also clean every day because this is for our own benefit,” she said.

Nabbanja said the third National Cleaning Day will run from 7am to 10am.

She also disclosed that a Kampala resident, Karuhanga Melvin, had donated two tuk-tuks to support waste management activities in Hoima City and Kagadi.

She urged communities to cooperate with authorities during the exercise and emphasised the importance of sorting waste at the source.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Executive Director of Kampala Capital City Authority, Benon Kigenyi, said KCCA would participate in the exercise despite the official event being held in Hoima City.

“As Kampala Capital City Authority, we are going to make sure that we entirely become part of this. Even if the official site of National Cleaning Day will be held in Hoima City, we shall also be here in Kampala doing our responsibility,” Kigenyi said.

He encouraged Kampala residents to participate in the cleaning exercise, saying maintaining clean communities is a shared responsibility.

The National Cleaning Day initiative is aimed at encouraging Ugandans to take greater responsibility for cleanliness, proper waste disposal and the wellbeing of their communities.
