Following the announcement of the death of National Unity Platform (NUP) member and comedian Kapere Lufotose, whose real name was Yokana Mbuuse, condolences continue to pour in from party leaders, politicians and other individuals.

Kapere died yesterday at a health facility in Buddo, Kampala, with several people expressing their sympathy to his family and the NUP fraternity.

In a message shared on social media, NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi described his death as a devastating loss that was difficult to come to terms with.

“A few minutes back, I just received the most devastating news regarding the untimely passing of our brother, dear friend and comrade Kapere Lufotose. A loss too difficult to take in,” Kyagulanyi wrote.

He described Kapere as a man who made every dark moment light, adding that he loved his country and wished it well.

Other leaders who paid tribute include NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi, Wakiso District Woman MP Betty Naluyima and Nansana Municipality MP Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa.

Namungoona-Kasubi Parish LC I leader Charles Semakalu also joined others in mourning the comedian, recalling his contribution to Uganda’s comedy industry.

Kapere began his television comedy career on WBS TV through the comedy programme Side Mirror, alongside the Amalula Family, which featured the late Paddy Bitama, Amooti Omubalanguzi, Eddy Kigere and other comedians.

Recalling one of his memorable performances, a local leader said Kapere once volunteered to play a chimpanzee in a comedy act when other performers were looking for someone to take up the role.

He said Kapere’s boldness and unique character made him memorable, adding that his absence would be deeply felt.

Kapere leaves behind a wife and children.
