The State Minister for Higher Education, John Chrysostom Muyingo, has urged parents to encourage their children to enrol in vocational and technical institutions to acquire practical skills that can help them secure employment and become self-reliant.

The Minister made the remarks during the release of the 2025 final examination results at the headquarters of the Uganda Vocational and Technical Assessment Board (UVTAB) in Kyambogo, Kampala.

Muyingo noted that the government is committed to strengthening vocational education by investing additional resources in building and supporting technical institutions. He emphasised that embracing such education will help reduce unemployment in the country.

He further encouraged Ugandans to undertake vocational training courses and obtain recognised qualifications, stating that this will enhance their competitiveness in both local and international job markets.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director of UVTAB, Onesmus Oyesigye, highlighted the importance of skills-based training for Uganda’s development.

Oyesigye also commended the Uganda People’s Defence Forces for actively participating in vocational training programmes and noted that other security agencies are similarly equipping their personnel with practical skills, including construction, carpentry, catering, mechanics, electrical installation, and water engineering.
