Residents across the country have participated in the fourth National Cleaning Day exercise, aimed at promoting proper sanitation, protecting public health and keeping communities clean.

The national exercise was hosted in Lira City, where the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, was represented by the Minister of Health, Dr Chris Baryomunsi.

The Minister of Health, together with the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Kasule Lumumba, the Lira District Woman Member of Parliament and Government Chief Whip, Hon. Jane Ruth Aceng, among other local leaders, emphasised that keeping communities clean is everyone’s responsibility.

During the exercise, the Minister of ICT and National Guidance also launched an electronic waste management initiative, which has been incorporated into the National Cleaning Days programme.

She urged Ugandans to embrace responsible electronic waste disposal, including separating discarded electronic equipment from ordinary household waste, while encouraging repair, reuse and recycling.

“A discarded cable and a discarded fridge both need safe handling. As we prepare Akii-Bua Stadium for AFCON 2027, let’s build habits that last beyond the tournaments, keep drains clear, separate e-waste and use the e-waste bins responsibly. As Uganda goes digital, we must manage what we discard, repair, reuse and recycle safely. Protect your data before disposal,” she said.

Meanwhile, in Kampala, the National Cleaning Day exercise was conducted in several communities, including Mengo Parish in Central Division, Nsambya Parish in Makindye Division, Bwaise Parish in Kawempe Division, Mutungo Parish in Nakawa Division and Nakulabye Parish.

Residents in the different communities were urged to sustain the cleaning efforts beyond the designated national cleaning days by embracing proper waste disposal and regularly participating in activities aimed at maintaining a clean environment.
