UIPE signs MoU with Civil Society Coalition for Transport

The Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers (UIPE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Civil Society Coalition for Transport to promote professionalism and strengthen collaboration in Uganda’s engineering and transport sectors.

The MoU was signed at the UIPE headquarters in Kampala in the presence of UIPE members and other stakeholders.

UIPE President Peterson Mwesiga welcomed the partnership, saying collaboration with civil society organisations would help engineers achieve their targets and contribute more effectively to national development.

Mwesiga said engineers in various fields, including electrical and civil engineering, had continued to make a significant contribution to Uganda’s development.

He also confirmed that UIPE would participate in the National Cleaning Days initiated by the Government. He said engineers would join communities in cleaning homes, roads and other public spaces, noting that a clean environment was important for people to remain healthy and productive.

Meanwhile, Makerere University Professor Charles Nuwagaba called for improved waste management practices, including sorting waste at source. He urged the public to manage waste properly to promote hygiene and organised communities, while calling on the Government to continue sensitising citizens about proper waste disposal.

During the event, UIPE also launched the Engineers’ League, an initiative aimed at promoting physical fitness and strengthening interaction among engineers.

Mwesiga said the league would also help UIPE form a team to participate in the Corporate League. He encouraged engineers across the country to join the initiative, which he said was free of charge.

According to UIPE, the institution has about 12,000 members across the country.
