The Law Council has accredited Victoria University as one of the institutions authorised to teach law in Uganda, joining 18 other universities including Uganda Christian University, Islamic University in Uganda, Makerere University, Ndejje University, and Kyambogo University, among others. This accreditation means Victoria University will now offer a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) program and is ready to contribute to Uganda’s legal fraternity, being well-equipped with the necessary facilities.
The news became public after Victoria University made the announcement on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle. The Law Council’s official notice, dated May 6, 2025, lists Victoria University among the 19 accredited institutions in the country authorised to teach law.
“Great news! Victoria University is officially accredited by the Law Council to teach law in Uganda. Another bold step in shaping future legal minds with a practical, tech-driven approach,” the University posted.
This accreditation follows earlier approval by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) in July 2024, which authorised Victoria University to admit at least 81 students annually into its LLB program. This approval is valid for nine years, with a possibility of renewal.
With this recognition, Victoria University joins the ranks of Uganda’s esteemed legal education providers, contributing to the training of competent legal professionals capable of shaping the country’s legal future.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Lawrence Muganga, expressed gratitude to the Law Council for the accreditation:
“We are overjoyed and deeply grateful to the Law Council for officially recognising Victoria University as an accredited higher education institution authorised to teach law in Uganda. This milestone fills us with pride and excitement as we continue our journey of excellence. Thank you, Law Council,” he said.
