The Electoral Commission Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, Dr. Tanga Odoi, earlier this week released the party’s program for upcoming activities, urging party members to actively participate.

“The Commission wishes to inform the country that there will be primaries for special interest group committees. These include Youth (9 members), Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) (5 members), and Elderly Persons (5 members). Polling for these committees will take place on May 24th across the 72,000 villages countrywide, in preparation for their nomination by the National Electoral Commission between June 2nd and 10th, 2025. Therefore, primaries shall be conducted at the parish, subcounty, district, and national levels,” he said.

Against this background, the NRM Youth Leader in Kisenyi II parish, Kawuma Sushan, urged fellow young people to get involved in the process and to refrain from disrespecting the President.

“Young people, please get involved in NRM party activities and engage in productive work. I also advise you to stop abusing President Museveni. The President has done a lot for this country and deserves our support, especially from us young people. I always remind you that the ‘Bus’ still has some space, so don’t hesitate to hop on. I assure you that you won’t be disappointed. It’s better to join a party in leadership — it means you can more easily access the services you’re entitled to as citizens,” he said.

Similarly, the Deputy Headteacher and Director of Studies at St. John Secondary School Mukono, Mr. Kimbowa George William, reminded learners to avoid destructive behaviors.

“I appeal to learners to stay away from drugs. We are in a generation where many students end up in rehabilitation centers because of drug abuse. Please, this time is for your studies, don’t mix the two. Focus all your energy on your education; everything else will follow in due time. I also want to remind our candidates that we are finalising the registration process for the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), including entering marks as required under the new curriculum. On that note, we urge parents not to transfer learners, especially those in candidate classes, as they may face challenges adjusting,” he said.

The deputy headteacher also explained how prepared the school is for the upcoming second term.

“Regarding term two, we are fully prepared to receive our learners. Teachers have held several meetings to reflect on the challenges of the last term and to find ways to overcome them in the next. To parents, I urge you to feel free to contact the headteacher regarding any issues, especially concerning fees, to prevent disruptions to the students’ learning. Learners should report back to school on time so that they continue seamlessly from where they left off. As we are still in the holiday period, I encourage children to engage in productive activities and to avoid friends who might influence them negatively. Lastly, I call upon parents to consider our school. We still have a few vacancies in lower classes, but for candidate classes, we have already reached the required number of learners,” he concluded.
