Relief in Pader as a suspected Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) case has been ruled out after laboratory tests returned negative.

Speaking to our reporter yesterday, Pader resident district commissioner mr. Amos Assimwe Banjyi said the suspected case was ruled out after laboratory results confirmed that the patient did not have Ebola.

Fear erupted in Pader district particularly Pader town council when the late Too-lit valent Geoffrey, an accountant with Pader district died mysteriously on Monday, 8th/June/2026 prompting people to suspect Ebola as the cause of death.

Responding to rumors circulating online and amongst the community, Pader district health educator Dr. Komakech Paul confirmed that the result tested was returned yesterday confirming no Ebola case in the district.

He called upon people not to be afraid of NUMEM, a medical center in Pader district where the deceased was rushed after he was involved in an accident. The health facility which was on Monday cordoned off, is currently open and conducting business as usual.

Paul Komakech noted that the incident highlights the importance of maintaining a high level of preparedness as Uganda continues to strengthen its Ebola surveillance and response systems.

He urged the public to remain calm while staying vigilant and informed about Ebola symptoms, emphasizing the importance of early reporting and adherence to public health guidelines.

Similarly, Pader district LCV Chairperson Akena Alfred stressed the importance of personal hygiene, early reporting of symptoms, and adherence to public health guidelines to prevent the disease from spreading in the district.

Recalling previous outbreaks in Northern Uganda, Akena noted the devastating impact Ebola had on communities. He advised residents to avoid handshakes, unnecessary physical contact, and exposure to body fluids, while consistently using hand sanitizers or washing hands with soap.
